The Gretsch G9202 Honey Dipper Special is a right-hand, round-neck resonator guitar built for players seeking an acoustic instrument with the direct response and distinctive voice of a metal-body resonator. Its bell brass body and single biscuit-cone design provide an alternative to a conventional flat-top acoustic guitar. It is suited to roots, blues, folk, slide, and acoustic ensemble playing where a focused resonator character is desired.

At the center of the instrument is Gretsch’s Ampli-Sonic aluminum biscuit cone. The cone is hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum and works with the hard maple biscuit bridge to transfer string vibration into the metal body. This construction gives the guitar a pronounced midrange-forward resonator response with acoustic projection.

A mahogany neck with a Medium “V” profile provides the playing platform, while the bound padauk fingerboard carries 19 medium-jumbo frets. The 25-inch scale length, 1.75-inch bone nut, and 15.75-inch fingerboard radius give it familiar full-size guitar dimensions. Aged pearloid dot inlays provide clear position reference points along the fingerboard.

The G9202 is finished in Weathered Bell Bronze and uses nickel-finished hardware to complement its brass construction. Its non-cutaway resonator body includes F-holes, a weathered trapeze tailpiece, and a screened headstock graphic. Grover Sta-Tite tuning machines with black buttons support traditional-looking hardware and practical tuning adjustment.

This model functions as a standalone acoustic resonator guitar and does not list onboard controls in its manufacturer specifications. It can serve as a contrasting acoustic voice alongside standard acoustic or electric guitars, especially for slide parts and roots-oriented arrangements. For transport and storage, Gretsch lists compatible optional G6296 round-neck resonator hardshell and G2180 gig bag options.

Key Features

  • Bell Brass Body: Metal construction supports the focused character associated with brass-body resonator guitars.
  • Ampli-Sonic Biscuit Cone: Hand-spun aluminum cone converts string vibration into resonator projection.
  • Hard Maple Biscuit Bridge: Ebony and maple saddle transfers vibration to the resonator cone.
  • Mahogany Medium “V” Neck: Provides a substantial traditional-style neck profile for fretting and slide work.
  • Bound Padauk Fingerboard: Offers a durable wood playing surface with aged pearloid position dots.
  • Grover Sta-Tite Tuners: Black-button tuning machines provide traditional styling and string adjustment.

Design & Installation

The G9202 combines a bell brass resonator body with a mahogany neck, padauk fingerboard, bone nut, and nickel-finished hardware. Its Weathered Bell Bronze body finish, weathered trapeze tailpiece, aged white fingerboard binding, and aged pearloid headcap establish its period-inspired visual treatment. The body is non-cutaway and uses F-holes rather than a conventional acoustic soundhole.

No vehicle installation, amplifier wiring, or receiver integration is required because this is an acoustic resonator guitar. Use standard six-string acoustic guitar tuning and the factory-specified D’Addario EJ16 phosphor bronze light strings when replacing strings. A G6296 Gretsch round-neck resonator hardshell case or G2180 gig bag is listed separately for protection during transport.
