The Audison AV 3.0 II is a compact 70 mm midrange speaker designed to reproduce the vocal and instrument range in an upgraded car audio system. It is intended for systems where a dedicated midrange driver can improve placement and detail compared with relying on a door woofer alone. Its compact format supports installations where space is limited, including suitable door and A-pillar locations.
This speaker is a practical choice for builders assembling a three-way front stage with separate tweeters and woofers. Its 50 W continuous power handling and 90 dB sensitivity make it suitable for a properly configured amplified system. The AV 3.0 II is engineered for controlled mid-frequency output from 160 Hz to 13 kHz.
A semi-pressed paper cone with cotton fibers combines low mass with mechanical damping for natural midrange reproduction. The rubber surround and optimized suspension are designed to support controlled cone movement. FEM-designed cone geometry is used to promote more consistent dispersion for listeners seated off-axis in a vehicle cabin.
The AV 3.0 II uses a 26 mm CCAW voice coil, neodymium motor, and built-in copper shorting ring. This motor arrangement is designed to reduce inductance modulation and support upper-midrange extension. Its die-cast aluminum basket provides a rigid chassis structure while the compact motor layout keeps mounting depth to 31.2 mm.
For system integration, the AV 3.0 II provides both conventional terminals and an OEM-style two-pin connector with an included bare-wire pigtail. A black mesh metal grille is included to protect the driver after installation. It is designed to work as a dedicated midrange in an actively filtered system or with an appropriately matched three-way crossover network.
Key Features
- 70 mm Midrange Driver: Adds a dedicated driver for vocals, instruments, and central soundstage detail.
- Semi-Pressed Paper Cone: Cotton-fiber pulp construction balances low mass, rigidity, and damping.
- 26 mm CCAW Voice Coil: Supports efficient motor control and heat dissipation.
- Copper Shorting Ring: Reduces inductance modulation for clearer upper-midrange reproduction.
- Neodymium Motor: Delivers magnetic strength in a compact mounting format.
- Dual Connection Options: OEM-style connector and standard terminals simplify system integration.
Design & Installation
The AV 3.0 II combines an aluminum chassis, neodymium magnet, glass-fiber voice-coil former, semi-pressed paper cone, and rubber surround. Its die-cast basket is designed for rigidity and airflow around the moving assembly. The included black mesh grille protects the speaker, while optional AVG 3.0 S II silver grilles provide an alternate appearance.
Confirm available mounting space against the 84 mm outer diameter and 31.2 mm mounting depth before installation. The supplied OEM-style pigtail can be soldered or crimped to vehicle speaker wiring, while standard terminals remain available as an alternative. For active DSP systems, Audison recommends a 300-500 Hz Linkwitz-Riley high-pass filter at 24 dB/octave, with a symmetrical low-pass filter set at the tweeter's high-pass frequency.

Is the AV 3.0 II a full-range speaker?
No. It is a dedicated midrange driver with a specified frequency response of 160 Hz to 13 kHz. It is intended to be paired with a woofer for lower frequencies and a tweeter for higher frequencies.
What amplifier power should I match to these speakers?
Each AV 3.0 II is rated for 50 W continuous power and 100 W peak power. Amplifier gain and crossover settings should be configured carefully to avoid overdriving the speaker.
What crossover settings does Audison recommend?
For an active DSP system, Audison recommends a 300-500 Hz high-pass filter using a 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley slope. The low-pass point should be set symmetrically to the tweeter's high-pass frequency.
Will it fit a shallow custom installation?
The speaker has an 84 mm outer diameter and a 31.2 mm mounting depth. Verify the mounting surface, rear clearance, and grille clearance in the intended vehicle location before installation.
What connection options are available?
The AV 3.0 II has standard speaker terminals and an OEM-grade two-pin connector. A matching connector with bare-wire pigtails is included for soldered or crimped wiring connections.
Are grilles and a crossover included?
Black mesh metal grilles are included, along with two adhesive Audison logo badges. The technical specification lists no crossover, so an active DSP setup or separately selected compatible crossover solution is needed.
