Rockford Fosgate RFK8I 8 AWG Amplifier Install Kit

The Rockford Fosgate RFK8I is an 8 AWG power and signal installation kit designed to supply the core wiring and connection hardware needed for a single car-audio amplifier installation. It combines battery power wiring, a ground cable, remote turn-on wire, RCA signal interconnects, an inline fuse holder, and termination accessories in one package. This helps simplify an amplifier upgrade by providing matched cable sizes and essential installation pieces.

This kit is intended for vehicle owners adding one amplifier to an aftermarket audio system, including compact full-range amplifiers and powered-subwoofer applications that accept 8 AWG power and ground connections. Its 17-foot power cable is intended to reach from the vehicle battery to a rear-mounted amplifier in many standard installations. The included 3-foot ground cable supports a short chassis-ground connection near the amplifier.

For signal routing, the RFK8I includes a 16-foot, two-channel twisted-pair RCA patch cable. The twisted-pair construction is designed to help reject noise while carrying low-level audio signal from a compatible source unit to the amplifier. A 20-foot remote turn-on lead is also included to provide a switched amplifier-on signal from the source unit or another suitable trigger source.

Rockford Fosgate specifies full-spec cable that meets or exceeds American Wire Gauge requirements, using 100% Pure Crystal-Oxygen Free Copper (PC-OFC). The 8 AWG power and ground cable is specified at 8.36 mm² with 735 strands. This construction focuses on providing a true-gauge copper path for amplifier power and ground connections.

An AGU inline fuse holder and 60-amp fuse are included to protect the main power run. The kit also provides a firewall grommet, cable ties, butt connectors, quick-slide connectors, and pre-terminated ring ends on the power and ground leads. Speaker wire is not included, so it should be selected separately for the speakers or subwoofer being connected to the amplifier.

Design & Installation

The RFK8I uses 8 AWG PC-OFC power and ground conductors, with the power cable finished in a red translucent jacket and the ground cable in a translucent gray jacket. Rockford Fosgate identifies the cable as full-spec AWG construction, and the kit includes brass connection hardware. The RCA cable uses a twisted-pair layout, while the included AGU fuse holder is installed in the main power path.

Route the 17-foot power cable from the battery through the firewall using the supplied grommet where appropriate, and place the inline fuse holder close to the battery according to the amplifier and vehicle installation instructions. Keep the 3-foot ground cable short and connect it to a clean, secure chassis-ground point near the amplifier. Run RCA signal cables separately from the main power cable where practical, use the 20-foot remote lead with a suitable turn-on source, and add speaker wire separately because it is not supplied in this kit.
