The Rockford Fosgate RFK4I is a 4 AWG power and signal installation kit for adding one aftermarket amplifier to a vehicle audio system. This helps simplify the wiring portion of an amplifier upgrade while keeping the major connection components matched.

This kit is suited to installers building a single-amplifier system that uses low-level RCA outputs from an aftermarket receiver or other compatible source. Its 4 AWG power and ground conductors are made from pure crystal oxygen-free copper and use full-spec cable construction. The included twisted-pair RCA cable is intended to carry a stereo audio signal between the source unit and amplifier.

Because the RFK4I is an installation accessory rather than an audio processor or amplifier, it does not change the tonal character of a system. Its role is to provide the electrical and signal paths required for an amplifier installation. The twisted RCA construction is designed to support orderly signal routing in a vehicle environment.

The kit includes a 17-foot red power cable and a 3-foot gray ground cable, providing lengths commonly used for front-battery to rear-amplifier installations. A fused MAXI holder is included on the power side, along with a 100-amp MAXI fuse. A 20-foot remote lead provides the amplifier turn-on connection from a compatible source unit.

RFK4I can serve as the wiring foundation for a system with one compatible amplifier, then be paired with the amplifier, speakers or subwoofer, speaker wire, and source equipment selected for the vehicle. The included termination and routing hardware supports a more complete installation, though amplifier settings, speaker wiring, and vehicle-specific mounting requirements remain dependent on the rest of the system.

Design & Installation

The RFK4I uses 4 AWG, 1,862-strand PC-OFC power and ground conductors with full-spec AWG construction. The power cable has a red translucent jacket, while the ground cable uses a translucent gray jacket. Pre-terminated ring terminals, nickel-plated termination hardware, and an in-line MAXI fuse holder are included as part of the kit.

Route the fused power cable from the battery to the amplifier, using the supplied firewall grommet where appropriate and placing the fuse holder near the battery connection. Keep the ground cable short and secure it to a clean, solid chassis ground point. The included RCA cable is for a two-channel or mono amplifier signal connection; systems requiring more signal channels, speaker wire, or vehicle-specific integration parts may need additional accessories.
