Balanced vs Unbalanced Cables
One cable choice separates a quiet, professional rig from one that hums: balanced vs unbalanced.
The difference
Unbalanced (TS instrument cables, RCA) carries the signal on one conductor plus ground, any interference it picks up, you hear. Fine for short runs. Balanced (XLR, TRS) carries the signal twice with opposite polarity; the receiving gear flips and sums them, cancelling noise picked up along the way. That's how a 50-foot mic cable stays silent.

- Guitar/bass → amp or DI: 1/4" TS (unbalanced, keep under 20 ft), instrument cables
